WHY CHOOSE REFLEXOLOGY OR REIKI TREATMENT?

Reiki and reflexology treatments encourage the body to enter into a natural healing state to deal with imbalances without using drugs or invasive techniques. Therefore, a person can have reflexology, reiki, and other treatments/therapies at the same time. Both treatments help the body maintain its ideal balance, release tension in the body (improve energy flow), and help the body access its inherent self-corrective abilities.

Reflexology will often “catch” a problem before it manifests as a physical problem in the body. A reflexology treatment can help increase circulation in the body, help muscles relax, and help the body release endorphins. Also, a reflexology treatment can help the body balance adrenaline, reduce inflammation, and induce a deep state of relaxation, allowing the body to self-heal.

WHO CAN HAVE A TREATMENT?

Any age or gender can benefit and have treatment. Who would not enjoy more ease, joy and an enhanced state of well-being both inside and out?

WHO CANNOT HAVE  A TREATMENT?

Reiki-A person who has heart issues, especially someone who has a pace maker, is not recommended to have a reiki treatment.

Reiki or Reflexology-Anyone who recently had surgery is recommended 2-3 months post-surgery before starting reiki or reflexology treatments to allow the body to heal.

Reflexology- A person who has or had an aneurysm or blood clot is advised not to have reflexology treatment due to the fact reflexology brings the body into a deep state of relaxation opening the blood vessels which could result in a blood clot being released and travelling to/become lodged in the heart of brain.  Although reflexology is not contraindicated, during the first trimester of pregnancy anything new is not suggested. After that time period, reflexology will contribute to both mom and baby!

Reflexology cannot be performed on an area of a person’s body where there is: athlete’s foot, gangrene, wart, phlebitis, nail fungus, varicose veins, blister, skin/scalp/eye infections, open cut, rashes/sunburn/eczema/bruises due to most of these conditions being contagious or caused by infection in the body.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A TREATMENT?

Any type of reiki or reflexology treatment is an hour treatment in length. The client remains clothed with either shoulders/face, feet or arms/hands exposed depending on the type of treatment, comfortably covered while lying on a massage table. Soothing music, if you prefer, can be played during your treatment, inviting you into a space of tranquillity and relaxation.

Before the first appointment the client will complete a health history and consent form.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A TREATMENT?

Assessments are made on an individual basis, with the client’s goal as primary indicators of what is treated in the treatment. How often the treatments occur and the recommended time between sessions depends on the assessment.

For example, a client with an acute condition or toxin release will require treatments scheduled closely together (every 2-3 days) to promote healing. With significant improvement, treatments are scheduled further apart (1-2 times weekly for a few weeks). After a few weeks of weekly treatments, a treatment once a month can help maintain balance in the body and prevent future imbalances.

*Remember-it generally takes one month of a contiguous reflexology treatment routine for every year a condition has existed to create change! While working on acute/chronic conditions, the body will “release” the most current imbalances first!*

BENEFITS OF A TREATMENT

Physical benefits of reflexology:

After a treatment, there can be an improvement in sleep and breathing due to the body being in a deep state of relaxation.  A client may experience decreased insomnia symptoms or reduced adrenal fatigue, resulting in reducing inflammation/swelling in the body after treatment. In addition, after treatment, a client may have improved immune system, decreased digestive problems or decreased muscle fatigue.  Also, a client could experience improvement with range of motion in any joint/areas where there was limited movement or numbness (such as neck/shoulder/hip/knee). Finally, a client could experience a reduction of concussion or whiplash symptoms.

Mental/Emotional/Spiritual benefits of reflexology:

After a treatment, there can be increased mental alertness (clearer thought process), increased energy or increased concentration. In addition, a client may experience an increased ability to cope with everyday stress and a decrease in stress levels. Finally, a client could experience improvement in your mood through the promotion of harmony/balance within your body. The change of mood in a client could result in feelings of tranquillity and peacefulness or a decrease in anxiety.

CONDITIONS ABLE TO TREAT WITH REFLEXOLOGY:

anxiety, arthritis, asthma, bladder/kidney issues, bronchitis, blood pressure, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, colitis, common cold, constipation, diarrhea, ear infection, eczema, edema, eye strain, headache, fibromyalgia, menstrual pains/conditions, motion sickness, multiple sclerosis, nausea, prostate problems, sciatica, sinusitis, spine/back/neck issues and TMJ issues.

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER A TREATMENT?

After a treatment it is advised that you increase the amount of water you drink over the next 48 hours.  If possible, please try to reduce your caffeine intake (coffee/tea/colas) for 48 hours. Try not to have alcohol or smoke for the next 24 hours. Remember to make time to relax!

HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT?

Detoxification is a cleansing process that occurs with both types of treatment and comes about as the organs are stimulated to bring the body into balance. Although not everyone will experience toxin release most people will have some toxin release with minimal symptoms. Release of toxins is a positive sign because the body is beginning the self-healing process, symptoms can be temporarily unpleasant. When toxins are not released, they build up and create imbalances within the body.

Types of toxin release:

  • Frequent visits to the toilet with occasional change in urine by color or smell
  • Gas/bloating/nausea/diarrhea or constipation
  • Runny nose and/or cough
  • Occasional bad breath
  • Headaches and/or dizziness
  • Fatigue or feeling energized
  • Slight rash as the skin rebalances
  • Perspiration (another way the body can excrete water)
  • Deep sleep or difficulty sleeping and vivid dreams
  • Depression, moodiness, crying, laughter
  • Conditions that were suppressed in body may temporarily flare-up in body before they heal

*Remember that if you have a toxin release symptom(s) they are only temporary and should clear up within 24-48 hours so keep track of how your body is feeling to let your practitioner know on your next visit
